The Flying Goat

I have a list of 20 or so restaurants in the Spokane/CDA area that I am interested in trying. A list in which I will post once it has been perfected. One of the restaurants I had been dying to try was The Flying Goat. The restaurant is right across the street from Downriver Grill, another restaurant I need to mark off my list.

On Sunday evening I ventured out north to try out The Flying Goat, which is already a neighborhood favorite, and now I see why. If the name didn't already tip me off on where it lies on the "cool" meter, the interesting appetizers, fun staff, and unique pizza toppings really made me a convert.

We started off by ordering the Plese Flat Chips & Salsa. I am a Mexican food lover- bring on the spice- so I was hesitant to order their take on chips and salsa, but I learned my lesson. The great thing about this appetizer is that they did not try to compete with the Mexican version. It was a completely new spin on regular chips and salsa. In fact, the salsa was more like bruschetta topping or muffaletta, and the chips were flavored with the best of herbs. The only downfall is that I wish it came with more salsa.

The Waikiki pizza is on top- Sweet Coppa and artisan ham, caramelized pineapple, roasted jalapeño, cheese blend, and tomato sauce. Warning: You must enjoy jalepenos in order to enjoy this pizza. $14

The Fairview pizza resides on the bottom- Cream, cheese blend, house smoked bacon back, pears, blue cheese crumbles and a balsamic reduction. This pizza would win out the best of the best for me. $15

A closer look at the Fairview... yum!If beer
If beer is your thing, they have a great selection here. They even have their very own house beer- The Horned Aviator, and house wine- Goat Head Red. So, brownie points for creativity. I am not much of a curry enthusiast, but hearing from everyone around, the "D" Street pizza should not be missed. Overall, I would give The Flying Goat 4 1/2 out of 5 stars. The missing half a star is due to the price being a tad spendy for an only one size pizza joint.

Until my next post,

Adventure Boot Camp for Women

I drug my behind out of bed at 5:30 this morning to start my day off with a little boot camp exercise. I was worried I wouldn't be able to locate the group since Manito Park is fairly large, and it was not specified as to where we would be meeting in the park. Luckily as soon as I neared the park, the considerably large amount of women sprawled out across the tennis courts gave it away. Since, I didn't get a morning coffee prior to heading to the park, I was feeling a little groggy and not ready for the morning's activities ahead of me. However, after a few minutes of run, skip, jog, jump, roll over, I was as alert as I could be.

My legs and arms feel like jello now, but I take that as a good sign that I was in major need of a vigorous workout. Apparently the work outs at the gym I have been doing have not prepared me enough. The great thing about the class is that no one feels out of place because the class is filled with college aged girls, older ladies, in shape, out of shape, first timers, and repeat customers. It was a great morning of new experiences (and new pain) without one ounce of a feeling of judgement.

I forgot to take pictures this morning of the class due to my being very distracted, but I will make sure to take some tomorrow. If you are considering taking one of these classes then you can check them out at www.youradventurebootcamp.com. As a little cautionary disclaimer, though, if you do sign up for one of these boot camps and consider yourself to be at a beginner exercise level, then 8 lb free weights may not be for you. I thought I could handle it as 5 lbs sounded easy-peasy, but I was wrong. I can barely lift my arms above my head right now. Well, I can, but not without making an obnoxious whining sound.

So far, the class gets an A from me, but we will see how I feel tomorrow morning :).

Blog ya later,

Too excited to sleep.

I am currently suffering from first day of school jitters and excitement, and yet tomorrow isn't the first day of school. Instead, tomorrow morning marks the first day of my women's boot camp through Adventure Boot Camp. The class involves vigorous exercise outdoors at Manito Park.  The class workout starts at six in the morning, and ironically I jumped into bed early as a way to ensure I get enough rest for my first day, but instead I can't sleep. So what have I chosen to do instead? Start a blog.

When I wake up tomorrow morning at 5:20 AM, I hope to awaken rested. I plan on documenting the entire first day experience, from the outfit I decide on to the sore muscles afterward. I also hope to be able to give the boot camp a great review. Believe me, I am banking on coming home with sore muscles, and if not, I will likely be disappointed. So Adventure Boot Camp, I have got a proposition for you: Make me sore, and I will give you a glowing recommendation.

I will try to snap some pictures of my experience for you all (and by "all" I mean me, since I am the only one reading my blog right now).

Good night, and I'll blog ya soon.
