On Sunday evening I ventured out north to try out The Flying Goat, which is already a neighborhood favorite, and now I see why. If the name didn't already tip me off on where it lies on the "cool" meter, the interesting appetizers, fun staff, and unique pizza toppings really made me a convert.
We started off by ordering the Plese Flat Chips & Salsa. I am a Mexican food lover- bring on the spice- so I was hesitant to order their take on chips and salsa, but I learned my lesson. The great thing about this appetizer is that they did not try to compete with the Mexican version. It was a completely new spin on regular chips and salsa. In fact, the salsa was more like bruschetta topping or muffaletta, and the chips were flavored with the best of herbs. The only downfall is that I wish it came with more salsa.
The Waikiki pizza is on top- Sweet Coppa and artisan ham, caramelized pineapple, roasted jalapeño, cheese blend, and tomato sauce. Warning: You must enjoy jalepenos in order to enjoy this pizza. $14
The Fairview pizza resides on the bottom- Cream, cheese blend, house smoked bacon back, pears, blue cheese crumbles and a balsamic reduction. This pizza would win out the best of the best for me. $15
